What is a Subsequent Installation and why might I need one?
Last Updated: Monday 1 May 2023
A Subsequent Installation is an alternative to the standard nbn® installation process.
Instead of replacing the current service connection/s, an extra service is created in addition to the existing connection at the premises.
A Subsequent Installation is placed right next to the existing or ‘parent’ connection. This doesn’t necessarily mean there will be multiple cables to the premises.
If you need the service in a different room or building, it’s best to get a licenced cabler to extend the connection.
Some common scenarios that may call for a Subsequent Installation – sometimes called a “sub-install” – can be:
Where you’re occupying a property that is not or cannot be registered with nbn® such as a granny flat, bungalow, sub-division, or duplex.
If you want to avoid the ‘down-time’ that comes with a standard installation due to work or business commitments, technology dependencies, or up-time needs.
When there is an active connection at the premises that would need to be ‘churned’ (transferred from another account or provider) and you don’t have authority on that existing service.
This typically incurs an upfront cost of $297 and requires a technician appointment to complete.
Please note: availability is subject to certain criteria for your connection type. If you’d like to know more, get in touch with our Sales team by calling 1300 880 905.
