Can I use my existing phone number on the nbn®?

Yes, you can use your current fixed phone number on Aussie Broadband's VoIP service. We'll do our best to make sure your switch from fixed phone to VoIP is seamless. If your phone service is with another provider, we'll help you port the number over to our VoIP service before you cancel your existing account. With a VoIP service, you'll make calls through the internet and so you'll have your phone service bundled with your nbn® plan. You'll be able to use your existing handset as well, unless it's a pulse dialling phone (such as a rotary one).

How do I connect my home phone to my nbn® modem?

You'll need to plug your handset into your modem. If you purchase a Netcomm modem from Aussie Broadband, it will come pre-configured specifically for your service. If you have a BYO modem for your VoIP service, follow these instructions to set up your VoIP to be compatible with Aussie Broadband's service. Can I use nbn® home phone with an eero router?

Yes, but you will need to purchase an additional adapter. Amazon eero routers, including the Pro 6E and 6+ models, do not have in-built VoIP capability. How does the nbn® home phone work?

nbn® home phone relies on your internet connection to make voice calls. To have a phone line service on the nbn®, you pair your home phone line with your nbn® plan in a bundled service. Generally, you'll find your nbn® phone line to be as reliable as a traditional landline, with lots of extra options and features that can come in handy.

Will my existing home phone handset work on the nbn®?

In most cases, you are not required to buy a special VoIP phone and can use your old handset for your nbn® phone line service. However, if you have an older telephone set that relies on 'pulse dialling', these are generally not compatible. As long as your handset is connected to a compatible modem/router, you should be able to use your current analogue phone with nbn® services. All you need to do is to plug it into your modem to get started.

What happens to my nbn® home phone when there is an nbn® outage?

Your nbn® home phone service depends on your nbn® service to make and receive calls. If your nbn® is off due to a power blackout or another reason, then you won't be able to make or receive calls. For this reason, it's a good idea to keep a charged mobile handy in case you need to make an emergency call.
