Mobile broadband is an internet connection delivered over a mobile network, using the same reception towers for the internet service on your mobile phone.

Mobile broadband is easy and quick to set up. It gives you an alternative or backup to your fixed line broadband service.

A mobile broadband connection can offer a powerful, high-quality connection, and you can access it on the go. However, this type of service is only for the internet so it's not used to make phone calls unless you're using VoIP.

Mobile broadband and wireless broadband both use the same type of reception towers for the internet on your mobile phone. This can be 4G or 5G.

However, home wireless uses a dedicated modem for multiple devices. While it's true you can take your wireless broadband modem with you, you need a power socket to use the internet so it's not really a portable option.

On the other hand, mobile broadband is designed to be mobile. You can use a USB dongle, a Wi-Fi device, in-car Wi-Fi, or a data-only SIM card for your tablet on the go. Both options offer similar speeds and are easy to set up in minutes.

You'll receive a monthly bill/invoice for your mobile broadband service, via email or through the MyAussie® portal or the MyAussie® App. Printed and mailed bills are available on request.

You can view a sample bill here. If you've set up direct debit, the amount will be deducted from your account on the debit date, which is listed on your bill.

You can also request BPAY for bill payments, but you'll need to have a debit or credit card on file as backup.

You can track your mobile broadband usage online easily through the MyAussie® App, available on Google Play and the App Store.

The service data section lets you view how much you've used and how much data you have left. You can top up your data allowance by switching to a bigger plan. You can also use the MyAussie® App to manage billing and payments, change plans, and access technical support.

It's easy to add more data to your mobile internet plan. Log into your MyAussie® portal and click on the 'current plan' option. From there, you can adjust your plan up or down as needed, according to how much data you might need. You can also schedule your plan to revert back to your original plan type when the new billing cycle starts.

You can use the following to connect to your mobile internet:

• a USB dongle for your laptop
• a Wi-Fi device (portable hotspot)
• in-car Wi-Fi
• a data-only SIM card for your tablet or other device

A USB dongle plugs directly into your computer, laptop, or tablet and you're connected immediately.

With a personal Wi-Fi device, you get a small box that gives you a hot spot for connecting multiple devices.

In-car Wi-Fi devices plug right into your car's 12V adapter. Multiple devices can connect on this single device.

If you use a data-only SIM card, you'd use it like a mobile phone SIM card, such as by inserting it into a compatible tablet.

While it's important to note that you won't be able to make standard voice calls or send SMS text messages, you can still access internet-based messaging platforms, such as Facebook and WhatsApp, as an easy alternative.
